Well, this is huge! Who would've thought that John Cena and The Rock would have a match? It's a dream match to say the least, and one that hundreds thousands if not millions of fans have looked forward to since the arrival of Cena was also coincidentally the departure of The Rock in the 2003-04 era of the World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment. Let me give you a short history lesson...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

In the mid-90's, movie star Dwayne Johnson, the son of wrestler Rocky Johnson and grandson of wrestler Peter Maivia, debuted in the WWF (now WWE). He was under the stage name of "Rocky Maivia" and wasn't very popular among fans. That is, until he changed his ring name to "The Rock", started dressing like a pimp, and developed a loud-mouthed attitude towards everyone. This kind of ring heel quickly won the fans' hearts for the rest of his career. The Rock would go on to develop historic rivalries with wrestlers like Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley (whom he would also develop a favored tag team) and the "King of Kings" Triple H. However, The Rock is best known for his "three-peat" of historic matches between himself and the other great wrestler of his time, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Together, Austin and Rock headlined WrestleMania XV, WrestleMania X-Seven (17), and WrestleMania XIX, with Austin winning XV and X-Seven, and Rock winning XIX. Soon after, Austin retired and the Rock's presence with the company began to become less and less apparent. The Rock made his final on-TV appearance in May of 2004 assisting a wrestler by the name of "Eugene" (who had a gimmick of being mentally handicapped) from attacks from Jonathan Coachman. Following this appearance, The Rock soon left the company for what was seven long years...

Now, while The Rock was fading away in the company...

John Cena

John Cena debuted in 2003, after the company had already debuted its new name of "World Wrestling Entertainment" (following a lawsuit from the World Wildlife Fund that called for a name change). By late 2003, The Rock had lost interest in wrestling and was accepting more and more movie roles and leaving less and less time for his in-ring career. While that was happening, John Cena was rising in popularity, winning the WWE Championship a record nine or ten times (I forget, lol). As of now, Cena stands as one of the biggest names in the company, and has a fanbase many compare to Austin and Rock. However, much like Tommy Gunn in Rocky V, Cena probably hasn't liked being compared to the Rock, being unable to prove his worth since The Rock has retired and moved on to movies. Cena stands as high as Triple H does in terms of popularity, sometimes higher, but one has always questioned: Could The Rock return to the company he helped make popular and reclaim his crown from Cena?

Well, luckily, 90's wrestling fans got a shock a year ago...

In May of 2011, Dwayne Johnson resigned with WWE under a limited contract (to maintain his movie career), and on his first appearance with the company on Monday Night RAW, The Rock returned to a standing ovation and louder-than-ever cheers. Many 90's wrestling fans had their interest in the company renewed. On that same night, Cena's entrance to the ring was met with "Cena sucks" chants by the same 90's fans. This began a ball that just kept rolling, and on The Rock's third or fourth appearance, Cena appeared in the ring with him. How about that? The biggest star of yesterday meeting with the biggest star of today; it was something every fan wanted to see. Cena popped the purposal of a match at next year's (this year's) WrestleMania, to which The Rock agreed! The wrestling world froze for a minute, and it was to be the biggest "Icon vs. Icon" match since The Rock defeated Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8 (18) in 2002.

For the next eleven long months, the "Rock vs. Cena" much was the most-anticipated event of the year, no matter what other storylines were going on at the time. It was more hyped than Rock vs. Austin I, or Rock vs. Hogan. The Rock has had some legendary matches, and none of Cena's matches were really memorable. This is Cena's chance to become the next "The Rock". If Cena defeats The Rock, it will cement his name in the industry as one of its biggest names ever. But what if The Rock defeates John Cena? It will still leave Cena with having finally wrestled someone worth merit. The possibilities to sell this thing reach no limits. "Rock vs. Cena" is going to be the biggest WWE event of year, hands down. I know it kind of rejuvenated my interest, but I still don't watch religiously. Well, all eyes will be on the Sun Life Stadium on Sunday. It's one of those matches everyone will watch, even wrestling fans who don't watch at all anymore. I know I'm not going to order the event, but I'll be right there on Wikipedia the morning of April 2nd to see how it all went down. My prediction? My prediction is unfortunately John Cena coming out on top; why? Because 1) The Rock has been doing all the trash talking, and that's the formula; the one who dose the most taunting or trash-talking is the one that ends up losing, and 2) The Rock has a formidable acting career to fall back on, while Cena does not. I'm sorry, but John Cena cannot act for the love of fuck.

So, we have my prediction. Now, lets all wait for the outcome, or to those who have ordered the event, lets watch the outcome and await how the wrestling industry will view it. Saddle up; lock n' load...
